Philosophy

Less is More... Making only what you need and truly want is the way to go! That thinking is behind the 'Made to Order', or 'Order on Demand' philosophy. If we're being a little more thoughtful and a smidge more patient we can still partake of the 'material world' but have less impact on our beautiful planet. It's a kinder, gentler approach to Being and I hope you'll give it a try.

Designer / Artisan, Lauren Lake has been a life-long maker. She holds a BFA from The Rhode Island School of Design where she majored in Industrial Design as well as studied photography and art history abroad in Rome and Northern Italy on RISD’s European Honors Program. While there she developed a deep appreciation for the art, craft and design of decorative and everyday 'oggetti funzionali' (functional objects).

Always fascinated by process, she explores different techniques as needed to create her designs whether from 3d printing 'wax' and lost-wax casting to hand forming, mold making, and kiln-firing precious metal clays.

After RISD she spent a decade in California owning and operating a small prototyping company and working in Feature Film special fx, Tech and Design fields before returning to Rhode Island where she is based, when not abroad at school, with her partner and their dogs Mango and Pepper.

In 2023 she left a position of over 3 years where she served as the lead instructor and program manager for the Digital Modeling and Fabrication department at IYRS School of Technology and Trades in Newport, Rhode Island to pursue a Masters of Science in Medical Art at the University of Scotland in Dundee, Scotland.

In addition to Digital Fabrication and Additive Manufacturing, she has also taught Industrial Design, Sustainability, Model Making/Prototyping and Woodworking in the undergraduate programs at Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Rhode Island School of Design as well as Pre-College 2d, 3d Design, and Digital Photography.
